Ilya Mashkov preferred to paint his paintings in the style of Fauvism, Cubism, giving some notes of personality, which were perfectly combined with the new French trends in art.
Looking at the work “Naked” we see a woman without a face. Instead of it - a faceless oval. A woman is naked and holds a towel or sheet in her hands. It seems that the artist found her leaving the bath or vice versa, going there. The woman’s forms are complete. When Mashkov drew it, he remained faithful to his style - the contours of the figure were painted with careless strokes, but quite clear.
The painting was painted in the style of Fauvism, to which Mashkova inspired Matisse. The Fauves did not use bright colors. Fauvism is a distance from imitation of color, this is what gives us color, its result, which can be strong and impressive.
Nobody has succeeded so far in repeating his union of high art, kitsch, classics and folklore. The painter acted boldly throughout his artistic career. He managed to get ahead of time, lose touch with him. In the end, left alone, forgotten by friends, he did not realize all this.
A huge influence on him had the work of Cezanne. Mashkov decided to completely reject the modeling of forms, all the transitions of chiaroscuro. He began to ignore the academic correctness of the drawing. For priority, he has impudence, rightness (in his opinion).
All works of the author met sharply. "Naked" was not without attacks, disappointments. However, Mashkov was hard enough to disappoint, on the contrary, it irritated him, he began to be proud of such criticism.
