Jacopo Robusti (pseudonym Tintoretto, which means “little dyer”) was born and raised in Venice. He got his nickname because of his father, a dyer of silk. Little Jacopo showed his love for drawing since childhood. As a child, he painted the walls of houses with charcoal and the colors of his father.
As a young man, Tintoretto studied with the great Titian. Unfortunately, we do not know the reasons for his departure from the artist’s workshop. Later, he worked tirelessly, while learning from his predecessors. Hard work led him to fame - he becomes the famous artist of Venice. Many churches adorn his paintings of large sizes. He perfectly mastered the art of drawing, was able to gracefully show figures in complex angles, in motion.
In Venice, in the church of Madonna dell Ortho, the famous Tintoretto painting, “Introduction of Mary to the Temple” (1555), is kept. The artist began work on the canvas in the mid-1550s. He wanted to do something new, not like other paintings. Therefore, his canvas is different from the "Entry into the Temple" by Titian. The canvas size is 429x480 cm, an oil painting is painted on canvas.
Looking at the picture, we will see a steep staircase that leads us to the temple. The figures of beggars, mothers with children are scattered on it, at the very top of the stairs a priest is painted. Last ascends the stairs Mary. The picture shows us how vast the world is, how fast the dynamics of space are. The whole composition has a special significance, emotion.
