The artist Mikhail Nesterov never found solace in the world of his modernity. Only virgin nature was an inexhaustible source of his inspiration, which was reflected in every work of this remarkable author. He believed that with its help you can pacify the stormy and rebellious nature of human nature, as well as cleanse your soul from most of the vices.
In the picture “Three Elders”, which has another name “Fox”, the viewer sees a warm and sunny day in a forest grove. The main characters of the canvas are three old men dressed in monastic robes. They are sitting on a stump. Perhaps they stopped to rest after a long journey or decided to take time to contemplate the rich expanses of their native land.
The elders settled in a clearing covered with green, lush grass. In the background of the picture flows a calm, clean river, surrounded by picturesque hills. Like a haze or a gentle shroud, these beautiful distances were shrouded.
Ahead of the elders stretches forest forest. Thin-birch birch trees, spruce spruce and mighty pine trees growing in thick crowns under the very sky grow there. A fox comes out of its green house, leaning slightly to the ground. She is not afraid of people, because she knows that they will not harm her and, perhaps, will give something tasty.
Old people carefully examine the forest guest. Their faces are calm and friendly. It seems that they are amused by watching this sweet and inquisitive creature of God.
A visit to the Solovetsky Monastery played an important role in the development of the creative style of Nesterov. He was attracted by the pure and solitary life of the monks, full of kindness and pacification.
The painter compared the world in which they are with a beautiful children's fairy tale that happened in reality. In each shrubbery, flower or fur-bearing animal, he found ideals hidden to his heart.
